BFP warned folks on conflagration

The Bureau of Fire Protection warned all farm owners to take extra careful especially if there were plenty of dried leaves around it.

Over the weekend, when I with some newsmen in Digos City, we saw a rushing fire truck with sounded sirens, immediately we followed the firemen to where they were heading.

We reached the upland village of Dulangan, still part of the city, and while reaching closer to the place, huge smoke has surprised us because it seems that it was coming from a school building while we saw its rooftop.

Then, upon reaching the area, we find out that the fire was coming from a large hectare of sugarcane and mango plantation.

At least 2 hectares out of the 25 hectares of the said plantation was razed by fire.

The land area situated near Dulangan Elementary School was owned by Vermilla Bermis and Dumdum Farm, has prompted the school administrators to cancel its classes.

But the fire did not affect the school due to the perimeter fence around the school ground.
The Bureau of Fire Protection, Filipino Chinese Volunteers Fire Brigade and Kabalikat Rescue Team, has controlled the fire after an hour.

Bermis said she did not know the origin of the fire since she was only cleaning some dried leaves of the Mango fruits when it happened.

But she said she believed the heat of the sun had caused the fire.

SFO1 Enrique Ilandag, BFP team leader, said they cannot yet disclosed what had caused the fire but he said he believed that somebody had thrown cigarette butts considering its farm location along the road.

The BFP said initial investigation of the damaged was estimated to more or less P200,000.00.

Fire authorities informed villagers to watch not only their farms but also their houses to be safe from conflagration incident.
